Spring!

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Canada has such definitive seasons and its’ just amazing to see the world turn. We still have quite a bit of snow left on the hill but down in town the roads are getting cleaned with the rain, the snow is almost all melted, the birds have returned to sit in the green trees and the river which has been frozen for 5 months is now thawed out and freely flowing. Spring is here!!

The ski hill will be closed as of the 8th of April so the closing parties have now started. Very coolly the staff get a day on the hill by themselves with no general public so that will be one awesome day. I’m glad to be moving on to exciting travel plans and then heading home for the wedding but boy this place has made a big dent in my memories. I hope to come back in Summer to see what the place looks like and I hope to come back one day to snowboard the awesome powder!

Awesome day

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Today was one of the best that i’ve had on the mountain. I went down Whitewall, it is a double black run. Was easier than some of the other blacks i have been down, then went out of bounds and hit a boota (jump) for a few hours, in deep powder. It was sick fun. Then at the end of the day got taken down a nice chute on Fuse bowl. First time for that as well. So it was a day of firsts. Went really well. I was super stoked with it.

Sign that Shirt

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

We had a graffiti party at work the other night. It went off, one of the best nights that I had here. Lots of free food, strippers (not hot), friends, and most importantly a camera. Just to capture the time, got some good ones, and quite a few bad ones. I had a blast, got some cool things on my shirt, some that made me think of self imposed rules I place on myself. One being not going out with girls that have the same name as my sisters, and also one that has been broken, not go out with people outside my sisters age bracket (5 years younger and 4 years older). I’m going to scrap that rule. It is silly anyhow. The name rule is going to stay cause well it is just freaky going out with someone that has the same name  as your sister… not good thoughts.

It is surprising how many people I know on the hill, the cross pollination of my jobs means that I see both sides of the mountain, Operations and Administration. I could almost name all the faces I saw in the bar on that night. It was awesome fun, I was pissed of my nut, but still logical (Edit: I couldn’t remember if i saw people or not, and what i did for part of the night. People had to tell me they were there) and standing up straight. I did miss a few people that didn’t show up, like one of my bosses, Adam and Jess.

It’s March!!

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

I can’t believe it’s March already. Our mountain is suppose to close on the 8th of April so that means we only have 4-5 weeks of the season left to go. Crazy! So a few things have happened since i last wrote, like my boyfriend Phil came over to visit me for two weeks which was awesome. Unfortunately i was sick for a a few of the days he was here (badly throwing up!!) and so that wasn’t fun, but we did get in some good snowboarding time and we got to stay up on mountain at the vagabond lodge. Very nice place! Oh and i can’t wait to get home to see Phil again.

As luke mentioned our crazy lady has been extremely crazy at the moment, but lucky we only have about a month left there until we head of to great parts of this world. Luke is heading to Europe and I’m heading the states and Mexico. I’ve just got my tickets to a 3 day music festival in Palm Springs, CA which is very exciting. So my trip should be Golden-Vancouver-Seattle-Portland-San Francisco-LA-San Diego-Palm Springs-Mexico-San Francisco. My flight back home is booked for the 16th of May from San Fran so i can pretty much do anything in between april and may as long as i make my flight.

My snowboarding is getting heaps good now! I can go pretty fast of cliffs and also i’m working on jumps and riding the rails in the terrain park. It’s pretty cool. Last week i did Feuz Bowl which is a great achievement cos it’s a double black run! And i went out of bounds for the first time and still managed to smack into a few trees. So it’all going well.

Only a month to go! :(

Ignorance is Bliss

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

So I had an argument with the old lady. It was over a piece of plastic. Not a large piece either, the one on the top of a network cable. It broke off, she flipped out thinking that her computer was broken because of this plastic bit was missing. It is funny how misinformation and ignorance can create paranoia. The old lady was planning on buying a new cable. I told her not to, that I would fix it and have it back to her the next day. She didn’t want to listen. Somehow the whole “I’ve been to college and studied computers for 3 years, plus made hundreds of cables” didn’t register with her. So I took the cable and fixed it. Took me 5 mins. I brought it home and she wanted to see if it was fixed, I showed it to her, plugged it in. TADA! It worked! (I also checked it at work as well, just to be sure. Always do.) She also accused me of playing with her computer, and turning on the guest account. For starters, I am a geek. Why would I use the guest account? No privileges, can’t do shit with it. I would have easily gone for the Admin account, thru the back door. I’ll still irked by that, she was thinking that taking the network cable out of the computer will infect her PC. This I told her that neither of us have touched her computer at all. I don’t think she believed me. I think she was more upset that she couldn’t pay her online gambling games than anything. She is so paranoid about her computer, that she will get a virus or something that she lives in fear of anyone touching her computer. In fact I think that she lives her own life in fear, fear of the unknown. She keeps on talking about a couple that were killed in Mexico. Saying that she wouldn’t go to Mexico cause that could happen to her. I say it doesn’t put me off going. She is flabbergasted that I am like that. When I explain that she could use the same argument in going to Vancouver or Calgary, or any other town. She has nothing. It is all where you go I say.

What has got me laughing the most is that she has ideas of what I have done, but nothing really to back her up. Ok, a Guest account was turned on. Her grandson was in town. Unfortunately he was drunk, so surely couldn’t have touched the computer!! Bologna! I am ranting I know. Haven’t done this for ages. I just hate how she was wrong, but won’t say so. She is an angry woman. I pity her.

I can now see how ignorance in the world can create confusion and paranoia. It has done it in the past, and will continue to in the future. There are too many wars and conflicts where ignorance has been used as a backdrop to create war. I think the US government uses the ignorance of it’s people to create mass panic. The whole terrorism push by the US has created a greater problem. My old lady is a terrorist. She terrorises me, drives me made. Sure she ain’t the same as someone that want’s to blow themselves up. Still is a terrorist though, in my eyes anyhow.
