Philadelphia

We arrived in Philly mid afternoon and made our way, by foot, dragging our heavy cases, for a few more kms to our hotel…it did have to be on the other side of Penn’s Landing, didn’t it ? but it was comfy, clean, hot shower and just us in the room…and we had a great view. We looked out over the Delaware River and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, which looked beautiful lit up at night. We had showers, a short snooze - we’ve been missing our nanna naps - and then down for happy hour at the bar - $2 beers/pints….Glenn managed to put a few away but one was enough for me as beer makes me sleepy. We finished off some leftovers and hit the sack and slept quite well, although we still needed earplugs to cut down the noise from trains and traffic on the bridge.

The next morning we  got up and had waffles…I think I must have said ‘and in the morning, we’re havin waffles ‘ a few times…..but they were really yummy. Brekky was included so we made the most of it plus nicked some fruit for morning teas….turned out that we especially needed it this day !!! We walked about 20km today…from one end of the city to the other…………………saw Elfreth Alley, Ben’s grave, the cemetery where heaps died from a yellow fever epidemic, Liberty Bell (where a guy from Mississippi tried to pick me up he he… seems like I still got it !! ) toured the Independence Hall - very interesting - and Glenn completed another of his personal challenges when he ran up the stairs of the Art Gallery whilst I sang out the Rocky theme…much to the amusement of the folk watching….photos will prove he made it …. with a dance around at the top with his fists up in the air….we staggered home, stopping at an Amish market and then searched the back streets for a pub that Glenn had heard about the night before…built in 1793 and a favourite spot of many of the leaders of the day, including Presidents Franklin, Washington and Adams…we found it and although a bit expensive, we figured Glenn’s successful jog up the stairs deserved a reward…. it was yummy too - we ate period foods too which was interesting - Anna Dammer, Ben’s corn bread etc…. all done, we headed back to the hotel and snored our heads off………………….
