The season is over. People are leaving. I’m sad. Why do good things end? I’m not sure.

Friday, April 13th, 2007Shorts!
Saturday, April 7th, 2007Its 14 Celsius outside and im in shorts and tee’s!! Am i going nuts? My feet are sweating and they are in nothing… damn cold makes your body do strange things. It is a lovely day, i can see the dogtooth ranges over the top of the trailer in front, still capped with snow. Beeeautiful!
Not long left in the season, 2 days. Then we start partying! I think there is something like 3 days of partying planned at this stage. The last 2 days should be cruisey. I’m going to tell people to lift and load there own skis and boards. It isn’t that hard. Someone estimated that lifties have lifted around 581,200 sets of skis. Yes i have started a fund for my puppies. They are sick!!! LOL (It may take some people a while to get that one)
I leave golden on the 21st, Jess is leaving a bit earlier. We are both going to our Uncles Ranch. Going to be lots of fun!! Get to meet our cousins as well, haven’t seen them in ages. All is a happening!
So Hot!!
Sunday, April 1st, 2007It has been so hot over here recently. With temps as high as 16C! I am almost melting. I managed to sit in the sun and sun bake all day at work. It was one of the best days i have had, I worked Catamount chair. Amanda was working, so it was just her and i Switching it up. The other 2 people were happy chilln’ in the places they were in. I got a few rides in with Sonja and her mates, Josh, Sigmund and a few others.
I have my first day off ever tomorrow, so happy. Going riding with Sonja, Amanda, Martin and all of Sonja’s friends. Going to rock, so much. Got to take the camera. That is where memories will be made.
Awesome day
Thursday, March 22nd, 2007Today was one of the best that i’ve had on the mountain. I went down Whitewall, it is a double black run. Was easier than some of the other blacks i have been down, then went out of bounds and hit a boota (jump) for a few hours, in deep powder. It was sick fun. Then at the end of the day got taken down a nice chute on Fuse bowl. First time for that as well. So it was a day of firsts. Went really well. I was super stoked with it.
Sign that Shirt
Tuesday, March 13th, 2007We had a graffiti party at work the other night. It went off, one of the best nights that I had here. Lots of free food, strippers (not hot), friends, and most importantly a camera. Just to capture the time, got some good ones, and quite a few bad ones. I had a blast, got some cool things on my shirt, some that made me think of self imposed rules I place on myself. One being not going out with girls that have the same name as my sisters, and also one that has been broken, not go out with people outside my sisters age bracket (5 years younger and 4 years older). I’m going to scrap that rule. It is silly anyhow. The name rule is going to stay cause well it is just freaky going out with someone that has the same name as your sister… not good thoughts.
It is surprising how many people I know on the hill, the cross pollination of my jobs means that I see both sides of the mountain, Operations and Administration. I could almost name all the faces I saw in the bar on that night. It was awesome fun, I was pissed of my nut, but still logical (Edit: I couldn’t remember if i saw people or not, and what i did for part of the night. People had to tell me they were there) and standing up straight. I did miss a few people that didn’t show up, like one of my bosses, Adam and Jess.
Ignorance is Bliss
Friday, March 2nd, 2007So I had an argument with the old lady. It was over a piece of plastic. Not a large piece either, the one on the top of a network cable. It broke off, she flipped out thinking that her computer was broken because of this plastic bit was missing. It is funny how misinformation and ignorance can create paranoia. The old lady was planning on buying a new cable. I told her not to, that I would fix it and have it back to her the next day. She didn’t want to listen. Somehow the whole “I’ve been to college and studied computers for 3 years, plus made hundreds of cables†didn’t register with her. So I took the cable and fixed it. Took me 5 mins. I brought it home and she wanted to see if it was fixed, I showed it to her, plugged it in. TADA! It worked! (I also checked it at work as well, just to be sure. Always do.) She also accused me of playing with her computer, and turning on the guest account. For starters, I am a geek. Why would I use the guest account? No privileges, can’t do shit with it. I would have easily gone for the Admin account, thru the back door. I’ll still irked by that, she was thinking that taking the network cable out of the computer will infect her PC. This I told her that neither of us have touched her computer at all. I don’t think she believed me. I think she was more upset that she couldn’t pay her online gambling games than anything. She is so paranoid about her computer, that she will get a virus or something that she lives in fear of anyone touching her computer. In fact I think that she lives her own life in fear, fear of the unknown. She keeps on talking about a couple that were killed in Mexico. Saying that she wouldn’t go to Mexico cause that could happen to her. I say it doesn’t put me off going. She is flabbergasted that I am like that. When I explain that she could use the same argument in going to Vancouver or Calgary, or any other town. She has nothing. It is all where you go I say.
What has got me laughing the most is that she has ideas of what I have done, but nothing really to back her up. Ok, a Guest account was turned on. Her grandson was in town. Unfortunately he was drunk, so surely couldn’t have touched the computer!! Bologna! I am ranting I know. Haven’t done this for ages. I just hate how she was wrong, but won’t say so. She is an angry woman. I pity her.
I can now see how ignorance in the world can create confusion and paranoia. It has done it in the past, and will continue to in the future. There are too many wars and conflicts where ignorance has been used as a backdrop to create war. I think the US government uses the ignorance of it’s people to create mass panic. The whole terrorism push by the US has created a greater problem. My old lady is a terrorist. She terrorises me, drives me made. Sure she ain’t the same as someone that want’s to blow themselves up. Still is a terrorist though, in my eyes anyhow.
Enjoying it
Friday, February 9th, 2007Just wanted to write a quick one, at this stage i am really enjoying living over here. Everything seems to be working out. I enjoy the work I’m doing. I work lifts on weekends and am doing IT work during the week. It totally rocks. Hopefully something can work out and i can stay longer. Anyhow this was only a short post. Boarding tomorrow, it has been snowing all day!
16 hours
Wednesday, January 31st, 2007Yes i had a tops Australia day. Ate Tim Tam’s, won some Vegemite, drank some beer (but mainly rye/whiskey drinks) I worked out that i drank for approximately 16 hours. It was fun, and it didn’t end up messy either!
The day started the night before! I listened to the Hottest 100 from Triple J. So surprised that Augie March won. The next day i made my way up at 12, when i got up to the hill partake in the celebrations, they didn’t happen. I was quite disappointed, they were going to do lots, but mostly everything didn’t work out. However the Highlander did have it’s shit together. They had Aussie Burgers (with egg, pineapple and beetroot or “pickled beet”) I didn’t have one, but instead had lots of drinks, before heading down to town. The taps was the place to be for the early part of the night. I met up with Christine and her friend Ange. They were funny, Christine was drinking Caesars. For those that don’t know Christine is my Supervisor.
After a while we were joined by another bus load of Aussie’s that had come from the Highlander (it is on the hill) they were around for about an hour, then disappeared over to Packers. Christine and Ange were riding the next day, so left around 12. I meandered over to Packers, where i proceeded to drink more, play some shit pool. I kept on missing the ball! Not even getting near what i wanted to hit. It provided lots of fun for those that were watching! I then had to take care of my friend Vanessa, who was quite more drunk than me. Not really take care of, just made sure she was safe. An eye in her direction. So.. the pub closed at 3am, I left, with Vanessa’s bag, she followed. It was my way of getting her away for that ugly guy. We walked over to Seven11, for chicken. Sign on the door- “No Chicken” What! we still go in, and Vanessa proceeds to ask the attendants for the next 5 minutes for Chicken, to which we all reply, No chicken! We stood at the Bay Marie for about 5 minutes staring, there was only wedges in there. Trying to decide what to buy. It was funny. I then walked Nessa home, she couldn’t really walk on her own. When we got to her house, she basically passed out in her room. I slept over. Woke up at 9am, way to early for me in the state i was in the night before. I actually felt quite good, rye drinks like me. No Hangover. Nessa however was still drunk, she had to work though. I got the day off, I’m smart!
I then met up with Ange and Christine, and wished Ange good luck boarding. She was so excited about going seeing she had a new board and bindings. I wish i could have boarded, but my knee is still playing up on me, sucky! Then i wanted to leave, didn’t happen. I tried to get a lift down for about 45 mins, either they were snobs from Alberta or they were full. I gave up went back inside and chilled till around 3, when Kristine was finished boarding. (Yes it is a different Kristine)
I managed to score a lift down the hill straight away with Kristine, we then hung out all arvo. She forgot her house keys, so we walked around for a bit, went to another Christine’s house. I then had dinner with Kristine and Jay (or James), Christine and another dude. It was ok food. Note: I have still not been home yet.
I then decided to walk home and get clean, and headed over to Christine’s house to watch movies. They were not to bad, Employee of the Month, then the scary The Decent. Had to watch some SNL to get over the scary movie tho. It was a fully awesome few days, i then also headed out on Sunday night as well. Monday night i slept!
I got a cold
Wednesday, January 17th, 2007It sucks. I have had it for the last 5 days. It started as a “i can’t swallow” then went to a “i can’t breathe” then it moved onto a “my heck hurts” then finally at the moment it is at the “my neck and head hurt” I came home from work at 2pm today. When i got home i had a 2 hour sleep and im still tired. I was meant to be working for Amanda tomorrow, but managed to switch that. Hopefully 4 days of R&R will help me get better. I hate being sick. It. Sucks.
An Ode
Thursday, January 4th, 2007Powder, powder, powder
Oh my powder
Wonderfully powdery
Deliciously powderful
Eerily soft and fluffy powder
Relucently bidding powder goodbyes
Yes is it is an ode to Powder. The gloriously white, fluffy, soft, cold, yummy stuff that falls from the sky. It is happening in abundance at the moment. To date over the last 48 hours we have had 53cm. 35cm on one day! The Trans Canadian highway has been shut in both directions for the last 2 days. People are stuck here, 9 bus loads of people.  Some are even sleeping in cars in the right hand lane of the highway all night, hoping to get out. Truck (Semi’s) are everywhere. Unable to escape a truck fortified highway, you have to squeeze between them dodging and weaving between the hauling engines and long carriages.
It makes for some interesting times over at Jiggers, our local watering hole (Read- Pub). It is normally only locals that go there, but at the moment everyone comes in and plays pool. We went last night with Lara and Sonja. It was a good time. Bought chicken wings, with our jugs of beer and had nachos! It was great fun just chatting around, good times. Except when Sonja said to me that “You’re a Smelly Pirate Hooker†then she went on to say- quoting her “Oughta punch you in the Ovaries†She didn’t really say those things, she just loves that movie-Anchorman. I however am not to sure if I like it. I love it, so many quotes, to small a brain to remember them all. If only I could package it up and squeeze it into my brain.
The highways were closed because of the fact that there were strong possibilities of Avalanches in the Kicking Horse Pass, and in Rogers Pass. Things are not dire at the moment, for now the highway is opened up again. People are still hanging around cause of all the beautiful powder on the hill. Oh how lucky I am to have 4 days off….. I’m going to be a sore man by the end of the week. Flying Dutchman here we come! Black all the way baby, bring it on!!!
I like to stretch myself when snowboarding. I do however take it all safely. I just purchased a knee brace, for my shitty knee. So I don’t blow it out in mid season. I have a helmet on the way. I also like to ride with people that are above my level. Mind you I have only been riding for the last 2 weeks. 15th December was the first day that I snowboarded. I was hooked from my first run. It is an amazing feeling, hurts the legs though. The reason I ride above my capabilities is it makes me a better boarder. Go hard or go home, is my motto at the moment. I have made my own style, which I’m sure will be refined as the season goes on. It is part surfer, part old skool skateboarder, part snowboarder. Quite eclectic, you could say. It sure isn’t orthodox, no matter what people say. I get down the hill without hurting myself (most of the time) and that is the whole point. The fun bit is throwing in the moves, and pretend that your riding a surf board on the nice long edges of the transport road (Cat track). Ahh the fun.
