Update- We’re Safe in NZ (Just)

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Well it is been a eventful time so far in New Zealand. Where to start?
The begining would be the best place, so get comfty. Left perth on time, had a pretty uneventful flight, a wish that i had short legs. The seats are so bloody small. It was bascially meant to be a domestic flight type plane. So i was squished from the aisle and from the seat in front as well. What joy to spend that time sitting with my neck squished-ed back reaching to see the small screen above my head. The one in front of me was to far away to see with my bodgy eyesight.

Well after that adventure, with not much sleep we were off the plane at 5.30am (NZ time) We stumbled around the airport for around 1 hr wasting the non precious time we had. After we had seen way to many Duty free shops. We decided to take the 12 minute walk over to the Domestic Airport for about a 3 hr wait for the next plane to New Plymouth. The walk was somehow stretched to 20mins. (A time wasting tactic) We then found out that the International Airport was WAY more exciting than the domestic, and had loads more room too. Eventually we found a spot to lazy away the hours. Jess had her Ipod, i had…….Passing People. Let me tell you there are some weird people in New Zealand. Every minute felt so long. So i slept on the ground like a beggar, it was cool.
Eventually after those hours had passed, Dad and Mum arrived and we began the wait with them. It was only meant to be short wait, 30mins or so. It ended up being around 1.5hrs longer. Damn rain stopped the previous plane from landing. It acutally got cancelled. The plane behind had 3 attempts at landing and got diverted to another airport and people put on a bus to come up to New Pylmouth. The ‘Naki (Taranaki) had shown who was boss. The ‘Naki is what they call the area up here, it is quite cute with there accents and all. We were going to be pucked up by Kirstin, but alas she was in a consult or something, so Rachael came and pucked (picked without the NZ accent) us up. We got into our place and Kristin came and visited a few hours later. I had a small tour of the city that evening. I think we did both ends and the middle in around 30mins. It ain’t large but quite nice. I then went to bed and slept for 13hrs. The best sleep yet.

Day 2 Kirstin has up and walking long distances around a mountain that until that day we couldn’t see. Mt Taranki or Mt Egemont. Which ever side you look at it, it has different names. The trip was good though, lot of sitting in cars from the waterfalls (photos on Flickr soon..when i’m off dial up) The mountain has a majesty that only photos or the naked eye can describe. It is awesome. The only thing i was thinking was “Holy Shit! im going to be skiing down that in a few weeks!!” Speaking of which they are thinking of opening the season early on weekends only. We had replied and hoping that it all goes ahead, although we will miss out on Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. I can do them later. So we might be starting on the 2nd of December instead of the 15th.
Well i have taken heaps of photos so far, a bundle of shit ones, but some i really like and would like to have printed up when i get home. I’m missing everyone, wish you were all here with me ;(

So for now, cowabunga dudes! (i’m old skool, dont ask me why. I’m blaming the Kiwi’s)
